Drilling and Hyrdrofracking

There are many potential dangers and risks associated with drilling or fracking along the Loyalsock. Here you can learn about both of these processes and also hear some personal stories of how people have already been affected by these. The Pennsylvania State Constitution grants citizens clean air and pure water. Will this still be possible with drilling and fracking?

Potential Dangers

Gov. Corbett has been said to be in negotiation with Anadarko Petroleum Corp., a Houston-based drilling company. If the company is allowed to drill on the land of Loyalsock State Forest, there is a possible of many harmful outcomes. In fact, Anadarko already has over 150 drilling violations in Pennsylvania. We can't let this company drill in our forests!

Hyrdrofracking (hydraulic fracturing) is the process of drilling and inserting fluid into the ground at a high pressure to fracture shale in order to release natural gas.

Many people have been affected by drilling and fracking of the Marcellus Shale region. Their stories are heartbreaking and a testimony to how dangerous these processes can be to the land, people, and animals that inhabit the area.

The Costs of Drilling and Fracking

Health Problems

~ contaminated water & air cause major problems

~ long term: sensory, respiratory & neurological damage, cancer

Damaging Nature

    ~ harsh chemicals kill nature
